Generally speaking, there is no real documentation of the upcoming harfbuzz release. A strong support of internationalization (e.g. OpenType) is the main focus of the engine.

Being implemented in Harfbuzz (being the future text-shaper in GIMP)

  • Font selector and dialog: Design a better, more usable, font chooser dialog with internationalized font preview in GTK+, OpenOffice.org, The GIMP
  • Desktop-wide font configuration GUI: Should support font grouping, per font rendering options, etc. Closely related to font dialog. Fontmatrix may be a good start.
